ROCK SOLID PARENT SERIES, Diane Overgard, Parent Coach
First Presbyterian Church of Wheaton
9:50 AM Christian Ed Hour
Sept 14 - ROCK SOLID LANGUAGE
“Reckless words pierce like a sword, but the tongue of the wise brings healing.” Proverbs 12:18
Are you as clear, direct, and honest as you would like to be with your child? In this session you will learn skills to “say what you need to say” (to quote a popular song) in a way that your child can hear and accept. You will also learn about levels of questioning and practice asking questions that will help your child open up to talk with you, and also to think creatively.
Sept 21 – ROCK SOLID DECISION MAKING
“Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests others.” Philippians 2:4
Is your child getting old enough to take part in family decision making? Learning to make good decisions is a necessary life skill but it doesn’t come naturally, and the process often includes some disagreements. Join us on Sept 21st to experiment with a process for “coming to agreement” when there is a difference of opinion in your home.
Sept 28 – RELIABLE AS A ROCK!
“As a father has compassion on his children, so the Lord has compassion on those who fear him.” Psalm 103:13
Rock Solid parents are reliable. What does that mean? We don’t want to be controlling, or too strict, but we do want our kids to trust, respect, and obey us. What’s the secret? How do we get there? Don’t miss this last session of the three week series!

KANELAND PARENT UNIVERSITY - October 25, 2008 (Registration information coming soon)

11:45AM - BOOST for TEEN REJECTION & FAILURE Did you know that your child will face more rejection during the teen years than he/she will over the entire balance of life? This session will 1-engage parents to feel the pain of rejection and failure, 2-entice parents to explore what's normal as teens are developing and changing socially, and 3-equip parents with skills to build resiliency in teenagers and in themselves!
